Overview

Maritime and admiralty claims are litigated frequently along the Texas Gulf coast particularly in Houston, Galveston, Beaumont and Corpus Christi. Some of our lawyers have in-depth experience in handling coverage claims and lawsuits arising out of maritime claims and also serving as defense counsel in maritime lawsuits. We have extensive experience in the following practice specialties:

Defense of Insureds
Some of our lawyers have spent several years litigating personal injury and death claims on ocean-going vessels, oil rigs, platforms, and other vessels subject to maritime law. Our lawyers have experience in defending claims under the Jones Act as well as the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act.

Cargo and Vessel Claims
Our lawyers have defended numerous claims against blue and brown water carriers and we also handle land-based claims involving maritime law brought under Kirby v. Northfolk Railway. Our lawyers also have experience litigating collisions and allusions arising out of vessels running into bridges, docks, or other vessels.

Maritime Coverage Claims
Our lawyers have extensive experience in evaluating coverage claims arising out of both blue and brown water exposures implicating the insuring agreement, endorsements and exclusions in a diverse range of maritime coverages. We understand both the London and American Markets providing maritime coverage. We have defended lawsuits against domestic insurers arising out of recreational boating, ocean-going vessels, rugs, platforms, cargo, protection and indemnity, pollution and marine employers’ liability policies. We have also worked with international insurers including subscribing underwriters from the London Market on their Texas maritime and energy claims. We have also handled subrogation claims on behalf of our marine clients to recover sums owed to them by responsible third parties
